New knowledge, new deliverables - Taking the time to build Persona and Process Flow helps completing the design a lot. Though, I haven't always get the opportunity to create such deliverables, I always believed that taking the time to at least create a decent persona for each user types, and understand the process that each do, will work wonders for the product. It will trim the time it takes to design, and will help clarify expectations or assumptions in the early stages of the process.

Limitations encourage creativity - Designing for a new platform was and is both difficult and exhilarating. It not only improved my design process, but it also made me rethink how I approach problem-solving when employing designs for certain platforms and technologies. The boundaries and limitations of the platform taught me how to be more creative in my designs thanks to this project.

The Outcome

The Outcome

After 2 months of iterations and design presentations, the design was approved and development phase started to ramp-up. During this phase the personas, user flows, and already approved designs became a basis for their sprint planning and ease of technical analysis. This helped the team developed the MVP in a stable phase without the afterthought that a certain module or feature will change.

After all the flows and modules were approved, I started creating low-fidelity wireframes to help us select what layout and interaction to utilize for each persona.

Process

Process

Unlike the other projects that I worked on, this one started from scratch. No parallel development was happening. The design must be signed-off before development started. I started doing interviews and process walkthroughs with the product owner and collaborated closely to point out what was the vision and goal for the MVP.

Once I have the information I needed I created personas and process flows to help us understand and also frame my design to the pain points and goals of each user types. Through this we identified modules that each persona may or may not have in the application, such as user management, or team management just to name a few.

My Role

My Role

I was assigned to this project as a solo UX Designer, but unlike other projects I handled, I get to start from scratch. I handled the creation of personas, conducted interviews, and brainstorm with the product owner. Added to that the expected deliverables such as wireframes, mockups, and high-fidelity prototypes.

I also assisted developers during the development phase by providing hand-off sessions, as well as conducting fidelity checks to ensure if the approved designs are being followed as much as possible.
